Kuwait: Unveiling the Hidden Gem of the Arabian Peninsula

Positioned in the northwestern part of the Persian Gulf, Kuwait is one of the prominent countries in the Arabian Peninsula. Travellers visiting Kuwait can have a lot of enriching experiences.

Kuwait offers numerous natural, cultural, and historical treasures to discover, from the bustling streets featuring sleek skyscrapers, ancient museums, and traditional markets to the quiet serenity of the desert dunes and gorgeous Corniche.

Booking your flight earlier will help you find the best deals from leading airlines like Kuwait Airways online, which enables you to compare and find the lowest airfare.

You will completely become involved in warm hospitality, thrilling adventures, and wonderful cuisine while doing an exciting selection of things in Kuwait. Some of the important ones include:

  1. Enjoy Watching the Famous Kuwait Towers

The Kuwait Towers, symbolising traditional Islamic aspects with contemporary construction, are one of the most recognised landmarks in Kuwait. These towers, overlooking Kuwait City and the Persian Gulf, comprise a 614-foot-tall main tower.

The Discovery Ball, a viewing sphere placed on the main tower, is about 400 feet above the ground and offers unrivalled 360-degree views of the area around it. Visitors can have a gastronomic tour of a Kuwaiti restaurant, which serves both international and oriental cuisine, as well as stunning views.

Entry to the Kuwait Towers is from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day, and you need to pay a fee of 3 KWD for admission to the Discovery Ball. Visitors who dine at the restaurant can have free entry.

  1. Explore Failaka Island

Failaka Island lies in the northeastern part of Kuwait City in the Arabian Gulf, and it is 20 km away from the city. An important archaeological site, the island was first settled by the Mesopotamians in 2000 BC.

The Iraqi invasion of Kuwait caused Failaka Island significant damage. Nonetheless, attempts are being made to maintain the island’s particular cultural, social, and natural legacy to make it a tourism destination. When you are here, you can visit the Failaka Museum, which is known for several antiques and artefacts. The other activities include water sports, kayaking, surfing, and diving.

  1. Experience the Arabian Desert

When visiting Kuwait, the Arabian Desert is possibly one of the nicest experiences you can have, and it is best appreciated between October and March. Kuwait’s Kazmah Desert is famous for its breathtaking scenery and adventure sports. Standing on top of the desert cliffs, you may have a bird’s eye view of the whole city, especially under a starry sky or during a spectacular sunset.

You can enjoy doing various activities like driving a jeep or 4WD on a dirt road, gliding on sand dunes, and going on a quad bike or camel safari. Remember that safaris are only accessible from November to March, therefore dress properly, as it will be very hot

  1. Enjoy the Great Artwork at the Mirror House

The Mirror House is a home turned museum and tourist attraction in Kuwait. Mrs Lidia Al Qattan, a magnificent artist born in Italy, relocated to Kuwait to live with her husband, Mr Khalifa Al Qattan, the famous Kuwaiti modern artist, who owns it.

It is the world’s only mirror mansion, with themed rooms, which are completely covered with mirror mosaics. The second level is devoted to the couple’s artistic endeavours, with a colourful art gallery organised into thematic parts. The paintings depict the region’s history and all of the wars of the previous century, which is incredibly informative.

  1. Shop at Souq Al-Mubarakiya and Malls

With no value-added tax in Kuwait, visitors can get practically anything they need at reasonable costs.

There are several traditional bazaars and contemporary stores in Kuwait, but the greatest one to see when you come is Souq Al-Mubarakiya, commonly known as the ‘grand market’.

This 200-year-old market specialises in jewellery, real Arabian antiquities, spices, Persian silk carpets, and fragrances, among other things, so don’t forget to stock up on some wonderful souvenirs here. The Sheikh Mubarak Kiosk Museum is free to enter.

You can also visit the shopping mall, The Avenues, which offers glittering jewellery, numerous designer brands, and popular restaurants.

  1. Visit the Best Beaches

Kuwait’s beaches are very appealing. The popular ones are Egaila Beach and Messilah Beach, located in the southern part of the city.

You are welcome to visit them though they are private beaches. When Messilah Beach is a calm beach, Egaila offers a lively atmosphere with several things to do. You will find an outdoor theatre, cafes, barbecue pits, gardens, and a swimming pool at Egaila Beach.

Abu Al Hasani Beach, Marina Beach, and Anjafa Beach are three other beaches to visit. They are clean beaches with decent amenities and restaurants.
